Why I Want to Teach

When I was a little girl, I use to love to go to the basement of my parents house where we had a couple of old fashioned school desks and a blackboard and play school with my friends. We would play for hours. And I loved dreaming about become a school teacher one day. Even though I dreamed of the day when I would be a teacher, school itself never came easy. I was always one of the students who struggled in school. I would work really hard to accomplish all my assigments and test, but no matter how hard I tried, I just didn't understand what was being taught. Luckily with the help of some wonderful teachers and parents, I was finaly able to succeed. Because I know what it is like to struggle through school, I want to be able to help other students, like myself, find ways to succeed, and Thank those who helped me.

Field Week 2

This week as been a lot of fun as well. Monday started out with the ancient Greek Olympics. I taught a mini lesson on the ancient Olympics and then split the class into different city states. They all has little info sheets to read as to how they were to at the Olympics according to which city-state they came from. The students had a great time with it, especially those who got to cheat and lie to win. Tues. April taught a great lesson on the different wars and Wed. we gave a quick review before the unit test. Thurs. we went out to the playground and practiced for their 6th grade BYU vs UofU flag football game that they will be having at the end of the food drive. They needed extra players, so the students were accommodating enough to let the teachers play, even though I was in a skirt :). Fri, I took the opportunity to teach a math lesson. It was alright, I could have done a better job at explaining the basics that I had not realized needed to be taught as well. But I am grateful the the learning experience and hopeful did more good than damage. I can't believe the 2nd week is over. Can we stay in this classroom for the rest of the semester? :)

Field Week 1

So I guess I forgot to share whats been happening in Mrs. Lindsay's 6th grade. LOL
The week started out with UEA, where I was able to hear Erin Gruwell speak about her experiences. What amazing things she has accomplished. I wished you all could have been there. So the "first day of school" was Halloween, with parties and parades which were a lot of fun to be a part of. Fri. I was able to teach a lesson on some of the Greek Gods. It was amazing how quickly the hour went. The students really seemed to enjoy all the stories. I just wished we would have left more time for the assignment but in the end it all worked out. Several of the 6th grade teachers swap their classes for social studies, so we have been able to get to know lots of students, which has made it that much more fun.

Using Technology

One of the ways in which we will be using technology in class will be by creating blogs. Blogs will be able to allow students to be able to communicate with one another outside of the class about assingments or ask questions about a concept that they may not understand. Some assignments will also be submitted through posting a blog or give me feedback about a particular topic. We will also be using computers to play interactive games the will go along with our units, as well as looking up information for projects or reports that we will be doing.
It will also be a great way for your parents to see what we are doing in class. So I hope you are ready to dig in and explore the world through technology and share what you find.
